Elizabeth Ortiz-Schwartz, M.D., DFAPA is all about “giving adolescents and their families the tools to manage challenging behaviors, regulate emotions, better understand their difficulties, and improve their communications in order to set out on a different course.”
As Service Chief of the Adolescent Transitional Living Program, Dr. Ortiz-Schwartz and her team treat patients with multiple psychiatric diagnoses; borderline personality disorders; reactive attachment disorders; mood disorders such as depression, anxiety and bi-polar illness; and co-occurring disorders. “We also have the capability of addressing eating disorders and other substance-related concerns,” she says.
Helping her patients also means helping parents and the wider community better understand the situation. “We focus on providing a clear diagnostic picture with information that can be used for further treatment, academic support and family understanding ,” says Dr. Ortiz-Schwartz.
Dr. Ortiz-Schwartz believes in “going the extra mile to understand where her patients are coming from.” She takes pride in her reputation for “reaching the kids and reaching their families, being able to connect.”
