Ellyn Shander, M.D.
“If you can ignite a person’s hope again, and their dreams, then it’s amazing … you’ve reached their soul.”
Igniting the hope, optimism and strength of the people she treats is the joyous, high energy mission of Ellyn Shander, M.D. “It’s exciting to work with somebody,” she says, “and ask yourself ‘how am I going to get you, the individual in there, to come out and play again?’”
Dr. Shander serves as staff psychiatrist in all the hospital’s units. When she is posted to Admissions she is often a patient’s first point of contact. “I always tell new patients what a great decision they’ve made to embrace their future and their happiness.”
Over three decades at Silver Hill Dr. Shander has served in many different roles, but her treatment approach has never varied: “Healing happens in relationships, and when you can make that relationship with a person then you’ve made a mark on their desire to be the best they can be.”
Dr. Shander also feels her longevity at Silver Hill gives her a unique perspective on its strengths. “Every person working at Silver Hill is committed to the patient,” she says, “and that’s what makes it extraordinary.”
