Silver Hill Hospital

Rebecca Trotman, M.D.

Attending Psychiatrist

“I’m surrounded by clinicians with diverse backgrounds and training, and they bring unique skills and perspectives to patient care.”

What Dr. Rebecca Trotman demands of herself more than anything else in her approach to patients is careful attentiveness. “I’m a listener,” she says. “I give patients my full attention, and I strive to be fully present with them so that they feel heard, validated and understood.”

As an Attending Psychiatrist in the Transitional Living Program (TLP), working primarily with patients in River House, Dr. Trotman oversees patient care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary treatment team. “I strive  not only to help patients achieve remission of symptoms, but also to help them learn and practice new coping skills, with the ultimate goal of helping them lead happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.”

Dr. Trotman is struck by the collaborative effort that goes into patient care at Silver Hill. “There is a positive energy here,” she says, “and lots of really smart people who are able to think flexibly in pursuit of helping their patients. They all support each other and collaborate to achieve the best possible outcomes for their patients. There’s a free exchange of ideas and expertise which is something that sets Silver Hill apart.”

Her belief in her colleagues has given Dr. Trotman the conviction that Silver Hill is the right place for patients in need. “My sense is that many patients and families who come to Silver Hill have been struggling for a long time. These patients are uniquely challenging in that way, and I think we are equipped to meet that challenge.”
