11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Live Presentation via Zoom

Briefly tracing the evolution of thinking about suicide risk and its assessment, this presentation will introduce emerging evidence-based approaches to understanding suicide and its complex determinants. With these perspectives in mind, the presentation will review integrative approaches to addressing the problem of suicide. This includes the use of a platform such as the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) to approach the suicidal patient, as well as elements from DBT, CBT, psychodynamic, and systems research to help patients address internal conflicts (wishes to die vs wishes to live) and deficits (lack of adequate coping responses and/or a sense of belonging). Finally, the presentation will demonstrate how the cultivation of long-term resilience requires the integration of multi-modal approaches, often including family work, community engagement, group and individual therapy, and advocacy.
