Additional Therapeutic Approaches

Additional Therapeutic Approaches

Besides Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, our clinicians will choose from among a number of proven therapeutic approaches to find the most effective ones for your condition.

They include:

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)  – A treatment that helps you to identify important life goals and accept what may be required to achieve them. Often used in substance abuse therapy, the goal of ACT is to help you achieve “psychological flexibility.”

Cognitive Remediation A computer-based series of programs often used in the treatment of psychotic illnesses that are designed to increase your attention, focus, motivation and other traits related to cognitive processes.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) ECT is a safe and highly effective treatment for severe depression that doesn’t respond to medication or psychotherapy. Research shows that 70% to 90% of patients completing their course of ECT treatment experience significant reductions in depression symptoms.

Medical Detoxification  Under the supervision of our trained medical staff, your physical withdrawal symptoms are safely managed. Medications including Benzodiazepines, Methadone, and Suboxone are often used to help patients detoxing from opioids, alcohol or sedatives be more comfortable.

Motivational Interviewing  Motivational interviewing is a therapeutic approach that is used to help you make positive behavioral changes to support a healthier lifestyle. Although this therapy was originally developed to treat addiction, it is also used to treat mental illnesses, eating disorders and other chronic conditions.

Nutrition Counseling  Nutrition is an important aspect in behavioral health treatment because foods, beverages and nutritional deficiencies trigger your symptoms. Some foods can even interact with your medications. There is evidence that suggests a healthy diet triggers positive chemical and physiological changes in the brain. Nutritional counseling also plays an essential role in treating Eating Disorders.

Pharmacologic Therapies  The use of medications for substance withdrawal and maintenance, managing psychotic and personality disorders, and for other conditions as warranted.

Psychosocial Skills Training  Training in behavioral techniques aimed at enabling patients with serious mental disorders to manage the negative effects of their disorder and function independently in their communities. Psychosocial skills training focuses on independent living, making daily life decisions, social integration and management of time and resources.

Structured Treatment Environment – Living in a supportive environment like our Transitional Living Programs in which you can constructively apply the skills you are learning to achieve your treatment goals.
