Education

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program):

Silver Hill Hospital subscribes to CITI Program which provides free on-line training for all employees on research, ethics, compliance, privacy, and safety. This national training program is used by many universities and provides comprehensive modules on Good Clinical Practice and Responsible Conduct of Research and covers important topics such as recruitment, retention, informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, risk/safety monitoring, quality assurance, conflict of interest, data management, and study oversight.

WCG IRB (formerly called Western Institutional Review Board or WIRB)

Silver Hill Hospital uses the services of WCG IRB to review any research study conducted by a principal investigator (PI) employed by the hospital and approved by Silver Hill Hospital’s scientific advisory group. Research conducted by PIs from other institutions (see Current Research Collaborations above) have their research projects approved by their own IRB. WCG IRB is a national leader in human research projection and serves over 3,000 community hospitals, academic medical centers, universities, and research institutes. It also offers a wide range of educational and consultation resources that hospital staff may access.

Good Clinical Research Practices (GCP)

Once or twice each year, the hospital offers a 6-session in-person or virtual workshop training and discussion group on ethical research practices and human subjects protection for any interested staff. The workshop is led by Samuel Ball, PhD, Director of Research at Silver Hill Hospital and Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. Through his prior Scientific and Training Director positions at Yale, Dr. Ball has provided extensive GCP training to research trainees and non-profit organization clinical staff in Connecticut working in research projects
